Thermal Stabilization of Antioxidants on PMMA

Abstract: Different antioxidants were blended with pure PMMA resins synthesized by continuous bulk polymerization. The thermal stability of PMMA resins was measured by thermalgravimetry (TG) analysis under the atmosphere condition. The effects of the kind, content, and ratios of antioxidant on the thermal stability of PMMA resins were investigated. It showed that the thermal stability of PMMA was apparently improved by main-antioxidant, such as antioxidants 1076, 2246, 245, and 1010. The initiation decomposition temperature was improved by an assistant-antioxidant(antioxidant 168). In the systems based on 1010 and 168, the thermal stability increased with increasing content of 1010. When the contents of the antioxidant 2.5 wt‰ (1010/168= 3:1), the best thermal stability was obtained.
