Abstract: This article reported the stress analysis of weakened structure and structural optimization for hard plastic airbag cover plates in an implicit airbag by an ANSYS software. Through simulating the degree of blowingup for the hard plastic airbag cover plate at six different residual thicknesses of 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 1.0 and 1.5 mm, an optimal residual thickness could be determined as around 0.5 mm. This result was also verified by a balloon blasting experiment.
