Abstract: This article performed a comparative investigation on the design feature, transport mechanism, melting heat source and melting model of traditional singlescrew extruders and groovedbarrel singlescrew extruders. Melting rate, melting lengths and original melting cite of the three types of singlescrew extruders with different structures were simulated and effect of the barrel structure on melting performance of singlescrew extruders was investigated. The results indicated that singlescrew extruders with a groovedbarrel is superior to traditional ones in structure, mechanism and performance. The melting performance can be improved significantly for singlescrew extruders by extending the barrel groove from the solid conveying section to the melting one.
