Abstract: Effect of different mass ratios of aluminum hydroxide (ATH) and magnesium hydroxide (MH) on combustion characteristics of ethylenevinyl acetate copolymer (EVA)-based composites was investigated by limiting oxygen index (LOI), vertical burning test, thermogravimetric analysis, and cone calorimeter. The results demonstrated that the composites achieved the optimum flame retardancy with addition of ATH/MH mixture at the mass ratio of 2∶1, and their LOI values increased from 183 vol % to 344 vol %.Meanwhile, flame retardancy of the composites achieved a V-2 classification in UL-94 vertical burning test The cone experiments indicated that heat release rate and total heat release rate of the composites were reduced significantly
