Abstract: The needle felt reinforced composite plates were prepared by using basalt needle punched nonwoven fabric as a reinforcement and boron phenolic resin as a matrix through, and the effect of needle punching process on the mechanical properties of the composites was investigated. The tensile strength of composites exhibited an increasing trend at first and then decreased with an increase of lamination pressure. However, the flexural strength increased linearly with increasing the lamination pressure in the same needle-punching process. In a certain case, the porosity of reinforcement presented a more significant effect on mechanical properties of composites that its tensile strength.
