Abstract: A theoretical model for calculating the solubility of CO2 in poly(lactic acid) (PLA) was established with a statistical mechanic density functional theory (DFT).The solubility and diffusion coefficients of CO2 in PLA and PLA/poly(butyleneadipatecoterephthalate) (PBAT) blends were determined by an exsitu gravimetric method.By comparing the experimental data with the theoretical calculation results, the DFT model was found to be able to quantitatively predict the solubility of CO2 in PLA at different temperatures and pressures. The addition of PBAT reduced the solubility of CO2 in PLA just with little effect on the diffusion coefficient.
