Abstract: This paper reviewed the research progress of novel flame retardant system used in polylactide（PLA）,which were sorted according to the flame retardancy mechanism. For the condensed phase mechanism, intumescent,charring, catalytic charring, salt hypophosphite, and inorganic nano-filler flame retardant systems were presented. For gas phase mechanism, delayed release and gas catalysis were introduced. Finally, a prediction was made for highly effective and environmentally friendly flame retardants.
