Abstract: This paper discussed the sources of NIAS and then compares and analyses the regulatory requirements of NIAS in China, the European Union and the United States. Based on the current chemical risk assessment basis, this paper summarized the NIAS risk assessment processes and specific material risk assessment methods for food contact materials and articles. The safety limit of regulations, traditional method and threshold of toxicological concern are commonly used methods for the risk assessment of food contact materials and articles. Each of them has its own advantages and can generate a complement each other. This provided references for the management and control of NIAS in the manufacture enterprises of food contact materials and articles in China.
