Understanding of Commission Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 on Plastic Materials and Articles Intended to Come into Contact with Food

Abstract: Commission Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 on plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food has been brought into force on May 1st, 2011. The new regulation extended its scope to plastic layers in multi-material, multi-layer materials and articles. New rules were laid out, such as the requirements of placing on the market of plastic materials and articles; the union list of authorized monomers, other starting substances, macromolecules obtained from microbial fermentation, additives and polymer production aids; generals restrictions of the specific migration limits on barium, cobalt, copper, iron, lithium, manganese and zinc;the requirements for the declaration of compliance and supporting documents the business operator supplied; the contents of compliance testing; the modified types and concentrations of food stimulants; the testing requirements for specific migration into dry foods stimulants, etc.
