Abstract: 4一(hydroxyl)，4’一(carboxyl) azobcnzcnc was synthesized by using p-aminobcnzoic acid，sodium nitrite, and phenol via azo一coupling reaction，and the structure was characterized with FTIR and NMR. The resulted product was blended with polvcarbonate in an internal mixer to carry out the transcstcrification leading to azo一polvcarbonatc. The obtained product possessed the photochromic of azobcnzene groups with the transparency and mechanical properties of polvcarbonate.
