Abstract: The effect of interface bonding on the properties of PP/CaCO3 composites was investigated. When CaCO3 alone was introduced into PP,the flexural strength and thermal stability of the system improved, while tensile and impact strengths decreased with increasing content of CaCO3.However, whenCaCO3 was introduced together with an clastomer, the impact strength of PP was improved drastically with less decrease in tensile strength.AFM revealed that the clastomer substantially formed coating layers on the CaCO3 surface leading to a core-shell structure. With addition of a coupling agent, such coating became more effective.
