Abstract: A database system was successfully developed, using Visual Basic and SQL Server. Using the database, the defect types, characteristics and the corresponding ultrasonic images of electrofusion and butt-fusion can be sorted, queried and browsed. The database system can help the non-destructive testing workers detect and identify the defect feature in electrofusion or butt-fusion joints rapidly and accurately, so as to estimate the defect type and the harmfulness.
