Abstract: A polyamide-based thermoplastic elastomer (TPAE) was synthesized by melt block copolymerization of a double-end carboxyl-terminated polyamide 1012 (PA1012) and polytetrahydrofuran ether glycol (PTMG). The chemical structure of the resulting block copolymer was identified by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and its crystallization was analyzed by wide-angle X-ray diffraction. Moreover, its performance was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, mechanical measurements and solubility analysis. The results indicated that the as-synthesized elastomer has a melting point higher than 180 °C and a thermal decomposition temperature higher than 420 °C as well as excellent mechanical properties and solvent resistance. The TPAE developed by this work is considered as a type of high performance thermoplastic elastomer material.
