Abstract: The influence of tackifying resin and plasticizer on the rheological behavior of atactic polymerized alpha olefin (APAO) based hotmelt pressure sensitive adhesive was investigated by means of an Advanced Rheology Expansion System (ARES). It indicated that the shear viscosity of the adhesive increased with increasing molecular weight of APAO. With the increase of C5 petroleum resin content, the shear viscosity achieved a peak value. The smaller the molecular weight of plasticizer was, the smaller the shear viscosity was, but there was no influence on the shear sensitivity with different plasticizers. APAO hotmelt pressure sensitive adhesive had a strong temperature sensitivity. The shear sensitivity increased as shear rate enhanced or temperature decreased.
