Study on Flame-retardant Property of Polyurethane Foam Using Cone Calorimeter

Abstract: The flame retarding ability of retardant additives including alumina trihydrate, bromine-containing, nitrogen-containing, and phosphorus-containing fire retardants for polyurethane foam was investigated by using cone calorimeter at a heat flux of 50kW/m2. The parameters such as time to ignition (TTI), peak heat release rate (PHRR), total heat release (THR), specific extinction area (SEA), and mass loss rate (MLR) were determined. Considering the comprehensive behavior, ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and melamine polyphosphate (MP) were considered the superior ones.
