Abstract: Nanocomposites of PP/PS/DMSO-intercalated kaolinite were prepared via melt blending. Studies of properties and structure of the composites showed that the addition of modified DMSO-kaolinite improved the processing behavior, mechanical properties, and thermal stability. Compared with neat PP/PS, the melt flow index increased 2.925g·10min-1, the impact and tensile strengths of the composites increased by 48.8% and 24.1%, respectively, when the content of the DMSO-kaolinite was 6 wt%. The scanning electron microscope(SEM) showed that the size of polystyrene domains decreased with K-DMSO added, and the compatibility of PP and PS was increased.
