Abstract: For melt electrospinning, the effect of electric field distribution, voltage, and electrodes on the fibers was studied by finite element simulation and experiment. The shape of the electrodes and plate hollow, determined the distribution of electric field in the spinning chamber. Both electric fields were concentrated to the spinning region to stretch melt jet and the maximum field strength occurred at the edge of nozzle. The hollow electrode may provide more stable and persistent electric field than the plate electrode with gasassisted. The voltage was also a major factor impacting electric field and fiber diameter.
