Study on Preparation and Properties of Modified Polycarbonate

Abstract: Polycarbonate(PC) plate with UVprotection coating, which was made with acrylic resin, organic solvents and ultraviolet absorber(UVA), was prepared. Effect of coating on the optical and mechanical properties of PC plate was studied using light transmittance/haze locator, the tester of accelerated ageing and spectrophotometer. It showed that there was an excellent adhesion between UVprotection coating and the surface of PC plate. The coating had a good UVprotection property, the yellowness index of uncoated PC was about 11 after 120 hours UV ageing, but about unity for coated PC. The UVprotection coating could permit above 85 % visible light to go through and the coating also could keep optical properties and mechanical properties after 120 hours UV ageing experiment.
