Abstract:

Poly(propylene carbonate) (PPC)/poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) blends were prepared by melting blending using epoxy?terminated hyperbranched polymer (EHBP) as a modifier and then were characterized by dynamic mechanical analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, tensile and impact measurements, rotational rheometer and scanning electron microscopy. The results indicated that the PPC/PBS/EHBP blends presented a decrease in the difference of glass transition temperature with the addition of EHBP, indicating an improvement in compatibility between PPC and PBS. The blends also exhibited an increase in tensile strength by 68.7 % and in impact strength by 81.2 % at the EHBP content of 0.5 wt%. Their elongation at break also increased by 74.9 % at the content of EHBP of 1.0 wt%. Their complex viscosity was found to decrease with an increase in the EHBP content.
