Abstract: Vinyl trimethoxysilane (VTMS) was grafted onto polyethylene (PE-HD) via melt grafting reaction. The grafted PE-HD was allowed to react with forming PE-HD/nano-SiO2 hybrid materials via sol-gel process. The influence of nano-SiO2 on the crystallization behavior of PE-HD was studied with differential scanning calorimetry. It showed that for both PE-HD and PE-HD/nano-SiO2 hybrid materials, the crystallization rate decreased with increasing crystallization temperature. Nano-SiO2 acted as sites for heterogeneous nucleation. The result of isothermal crystallization kinetics showed that the half-crystallization time of both PE-HD and PE-HD/nano-SiO2 hybrid materials increased with increasing crystallization temperature.
