Abstract: Isotactic polypropylene (iPP) containing a binary nucleating agent of suberic acid/calcium stearate (SA/CaSt) was isothermally crystallized at 120 ℃ for 30 min in order to study the influence of the latters on the content of β crystals. It was found that when SA contents was 0.15 % and that of CaSt was more than 0.525 %, β crystals were observed in iPP. When CaSt contents were 0.675 %, β crystals contents showed a maximum. Analysis of FTIR indicated that an in situ chemical reaction occured between SA and CaSt during the melting blending, and a high effective β nucleating agent (calcium suberate) was produced.
