Preparation and Properties of POM/Elastomer/Nano-CaCO3 Composites

Abstract: Polyoxymethylene (POM)/thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer (TPU)/nano calcium carbonate (nano-CaCO3) composite materials were prepared by melt compounding with four different mixing sequences. Through mechanical property testing, polarizing microscope(PLM), differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), melt flow rate, and scanning electron microscope (SEM), the effects of different dosages of nano-CaCO3 and blending methods on the mechanical properties and microstructure morphology of the composites were investigated. Premixing TPU with 4 % nano-CaCO3,the composites exhibited excellent impact resistance. The measured notched Izod impact strength was near 12.5 kJ/m2.
