Abstract

Abstract: In this paper, chlorogenic acid (CA) was used as a free radical scavenger in poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA), and the effect of chlorogenic acid on the thermal stability of PVA was studied. Blends of PVA/chlorogenic acid were investigated by FTIR, DSC, TGA, universal testing machine，and ultraviolet visible spectrophotometer，etc. It showed that chlorogenic acid significantly improved the thermal stability, flexibility, and elongation at break of PVA, but reduced the melting point. When the content of chlorogenic acid was 5.0 wt%, improved thermal stability, mechanical properties, and light transmittance were observed.
