Abstract: In this study, polyethylene (PE) woodplastic composites were prepared with addition of calcium carbonate, talc powder and wollastonite as inorganic fillers. Particle size, morphologies and specific surface areas of these inorganic fillers were examined, and the effects of these fillers on various properties of the composites were investigated. The mechanical results indicated that bending strength of the composites with wollastonite achieved an optimum value while the composites containing talc powder obtained better impact toughness. Most of all, the mechanical properties, specific gravity, water absorption and hardness of the composites were improved gradually with addition of inorganic fillers up to 15 phr. However, when the inorganic fillers were excessive over 20 phr, the density and hardness of the composites still kept an increase, but their water absorption and linear thermal expansion coefficients tended to decrease.
