Abstract: Polyborosiloxane resin was synthesized from diphenyldimethoxysilane and phenyltrimethoxysilane through hydrolysis and condensation, and then was blended with low density polyethylene/ethylene vinyl acetate coplymer/intumescent flame retardants (PELD/EVA/IFR) composites to improve the compatibility between IFR and polymer. The flammability and the thermal behavior of the composites were investigated using limiting oxygen index and thermogravimetric analysis. It showed that a better flame retardancy was achieved by the addition of the polyborosiloxane resin with minimal negative effects in the mechanical properties.
