Abstract: In this paper, a novel flame retardant was prepared by compositing melamine hydrobromide (MHB), ammonium polyphosphate (APP), and 2,3-dimethyl-2,3-diphenyl butane (DMDPB). The flame retardant was tested in polypropylene and the optimal weight ratios of MHB:APP:DMDPB were found being 10:10:1. When loading of the flame retardants was 2.0 wt %,the limited oxygen index value increased to 30.8 %,and combustion grade achieve UL 94 V-1.
