Abstract: Biodegradable poly(butylene succinate-co-diethylene succinate)(PBDGS) was synthesized via polycondensation of succinate acid,1,4-butanediol,and diethylene glycol. The effect of molar ratio of acid and alcohol, catalyst, and temperature on the properties of polyesters was studied using nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). It is showed that when the molar ratio of acid and alcohol was 1.15:1, the condensation temperature was 230℃, and MBTO was used as a catalyst; the highest molecular weight of PBDGS was obtained, with weight and number-average molecular weight being 3.7×104 g/mol and 6.9×104 g/mol,respectively.
