Abstract: The inhibiting mechanism of the fire smoke production behavior and toxic species of the addition flame retardant to the rigid polyurethane foams are reviewed. The improvement on the flame retardancy effect and reduction on the emission of smoke and toxic species of rigid polyurethane foams with expandable graphite, nanocomposite or metal oxide are emphatically introduced.
