Simulation of Injection Molding and Analysis of Molding Defect for Automotive Exterior Parts Based on Moldflow

Abstract: Automotive exterior trim panel under the front windscreen was studied, and Moldflow software was used to simulate the injection molding process for it. Optimization measures were proposed for the possible formation of defects. Finally, the results were applied to the mold cavity design. It was verified that Moldflow could find future potential defects of the products in the designing stage. It could reduce the number of trial and the production cycle, thus reduce production costs and increase productivity.
