Abstract: The effects of polyethylene molecular parameters and processing conditions on crystalline morphology of gasassisted injection molded (GAIM) polyethylene and relationships between the crystalline morphology and mechanical property were introduced. Due to the enhanced shear fields induced by melt short shot and gas penetration, polymer chains were partially oriented along the flow direction and the hierarchical crystal structures were further formed in parts during the subsequent cooling stage of GAIM process. In this paper, combined molecular parameters of polyethylene with molding process, the formation mechanism of hierarchical morphology during GAIM was explored.
