Abstract: Several ABS copolymers were prepared via emulsion polymerization, which were melt-blended with SAN resin forming ABS/SAN blends. The effect of rubber phase structure on the mechanical properties of the blends was studied. It was found that the impact strength increased and tensile strength decreased with increasing rubber particle size. Moreover, the deformation mechanism transformed from pure crazing to shear-yielding of matrix induced by cavitation of rubber particles.
