Abstract: Polycarbonate diol (PCDL) was synthesized using 1,6-hexanediol (HD) and dimethyl carbonate(DMC) in the presence of calcined Mg/Al hydrotalcite as  a  catalyst. The properties of casting polyurethane elastomers (CPUE) made from PCDL were studied.  CPUE made from PCDL exhibited better mechanical properties and heat resistance compared with polyether type elastomers. Meanwhile it was more resistant to hydrolysis than polyester type elastomers.

Key words: Mg/Al hydrotalcite, polycarbonate diol, casting polyurethane elastomer, mechanical property, heat resistance, hydrolysis stability
