Abstract: PLA/ CaCO3 composites were prepared by melt blending using a twin screw extruder. Mechanical properties, thermal performance, structures and fracture mechanism of the composites were investigated. The results showed that the notched charpy impact strength of the composites with high content of CaCO3 was improved because of the formation of the CaCO3 network in the PLA matrix. And the crystallinity and vica softening point of PLA/CaCO3 composites were increased with the addition of CaCO3. PLA/ CaCO3 composites with high content of CaCO3 have low cost and high impact strength with good thermal stability.
