Abstract: Poly( ether ether ketone) (PEEK) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNT)were mixed via melt blending leading to composites. The effect of MWCNT on the properties of PEEK was analyzed. It showed that a certain amount of MWCNT could improve the mechanical and flame retardant properties of PEEK. When 5%(mass content)of MWCNT was added, the flexural strength increased by 53%. When the mass content of MWCNT was 1% (mass content), the composites had minimum peak heat release rate and maximum cone calorimetry combustion index value. Thermogravimetric analysis showed that the initial decomposition temperature was increased about 13 ℃, which indicates that MWCNT effectively improve the flame retardant and thermal stability of PEEK.
