Abstract: In this study, poly (lactic acid) (PLA )/poly(butylenes succinate) (PBS) blends were obtained via melt blending and their compatibility, thermal property, viscosity, and mechanical property were investigated using scanning electron microscope, differential scanning calorimetry, and rotational rheometer. It showed that there was some compatibility between PLA and PBS, and the tensile strength was almost unchanged at low PBS loadings. The impact strength of the blend increased first and then decreased with increasing PBS content, providing a maximum at a PBS content of 10 phr. The viscosity of the blends increased with increasing PBS content. PBS also functioned as a heterogeneous nucleation agent, which promoted the crystallinity of PLA.
