Abstract: This paper studied the relationship between mechanical properties and density of expanded polystyrene and polyethylene. Theenergy-absorption increased with increasing strain, and the energy absorption efficiency increased with increasing stress. At constant stress the plot of energy absorption efficiency against densityexhibited a parabola-like curve with a maximum, which provided an effective way for the choice of foam materials.
