Abstract: Pentaerythritol zinc was prepared from active zinc oxide and pentaerythritol. The influence of mole ratio of zinc oxide and pentaerythritol, reaction temperature and time on the performance of the product was discussed. The optimum reaction conditions were as follows:mole ratio of active zinc oxide over pentaerythritol 3:2,reaction temperature 220 ℃,and reaction time 2 h.When pentaerythritol zinc was used in PVC, the staticthermal stability time could reach 49.4 min, which was nearly 7 times without pentaerythritol zinc. The longest dynamicthermal stability time was 132 s, the shortest plasticizing time was 83 s, and the minimum torque was 28 N·m. These behavior showed that pentaerythritol zinc constituted a good thermal stabilizer for PVC.
