Synthesis of ACR Impact Modifier and Its Application in Poly(lactic acid)

Abstract: An impact modifier was synthesized with a mixture of moderately crosslinked poly silicone rubber and butylacrylate copolymer as the core and methyl methacrylate and glycidyl methacrylate copolymer as the shell. The composition and structure were characterized with infrared spectroscopy and transmission electron microscope. The impact modifier was applied in the poly(actic acid)(PLA)with a loading of 10 % and an average particle size of 280 nm. The notched impact strength of PLA reached 39.6 kJ/m2, the haze was below 20 %, melting time was reduced by 9 min, the balance torque increased by 3.3 N·m, and maximum torque increased by 2 N·m.
